The ICO works with organisations to improve their processing of personal data in a number of ways. We provide practical advice to organisations about how they can make improvements to comply with the Data Protection Act by either conducting an audit, arranging an advisory visit or a self assessment questionnaire. Our consensual audits are aimed at larger organisations who probably pay the higher tier notification fee. They are likely to have a basic understanding about complying with the Act and some policies and procedures in place but would benefit from focused assistance in meeting their obligations. Our advisory visits are for small to medium sized organisations who may be struggling to understand what they need to do about data protection and need some basic, practical advice to meet their obligations. Read summaries of our advisory visit reports.
Our programme of self assessment targets small organisations or public authorities within specific sectors to raise data protection awareness. This work is currently aimed at schools across the UK. Read summaries of our self assessment reports.
