This two-day ICO event looked at some of the newer aspects of the EU’s revised data protection legislative proposals. The Data Protection Act 1998 places responsibilities on all organisations to process personal information that it holds in a fair and proper way. To assist the business sector to meet their legal obligations, on 18 October 2011, the ICO will be holding a Data Protection seminar titled 'The Business Case for Data Protection and Business' in the City Hotel, L’Derry.
The event will feature speakers from the ICO and will focus upon the application of the DPA in various aspects of business, including employment, sales and physical security. It will cover issues as the obtaining and retaining of information about staff and customers, recording of CCTV images and disclosing or sharing personal data.

The ICO's seminar on privacy and data anonymisation took place in London on Wednesday 30 March 2011. Key speakers included Sir Mark Walport from the Wellcome Trust, Nicola Westmore from the Cabinet Office and Dr Kieran O'Hara from the University of Southampton.
