Marketing faxes

Marketing faxes

In this section

What does the law say?

The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 cover the way organisations send direct marketing by electronic means, including by fax.

Organisations should not send any marketing faxes to an individual unless they have agreed to receive them.

Organisations should not send any marketing faxes to a business or individual who has registered with the Fax Preference Service (FPS).

How can I avoid unwanted marketing faxes?

If you do not want to receive any marketing by fax you can register your fax number with the FPS. This will demonstrate you have a general objection to receiving any marketing by fax.

You can register your details free of charge http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/fps

What can I do if I’m getting unwanted faxes?

If you receive marketing by fax which you think breaches the Regulations you should write to or email the organisation concerned (remembering to keep a copy of all correspondence). Tell them about the problem and allow them time to put things right. In many cases things can be resolved quickly without us getting involved.

If you continue to receive marketing by fax after registering with the FPS, we may be able to help.
